Regenerating friction modifier

RETTOIL oils contain the innovative antifriction additive – the friction modifier*.

The additive has multifunctional properties: functions as friction modifier, reduces friction; regenerates (restores) surfaces due to formation of the reinforced coating; reliably protects against wear.

The friction modifier represents nanoparticles coated by a dense layer of surface active substances. The atoms of the elements of the nanoparticle core act as a regenerating component.

The surface active substances representing a polar head with non-polar tail form spherical inverted micelles together with the core. The micelles are fully dispersed. Their nature prevents aggregation and forms very static time suspension in oil.

How it works

The interaction of the friction modifier with the surface materials of the parts of the friction interfaces can be conditionally considered as a complex of three simultaneous processes.

The first one is a physical adsorption of the friction modifier on the surfaces due to polar activity of molecules. The adsorption leads to formation and growth of the multilayered antifriction protection films. The film structure ensures the extra easy slip between the parallel layers. Therefore, the formed antifriction films immediately reduce the friction.

The second process is a mechanochemical reaction of the elements of the nanoparticle core with the friction surface material. This reaction occurs during operation of the mechanism (engine) on the spots of the surface actual contact in the mode of the limit and mixed lubrication. When exposed to locally high pressures and temperatures, the micelles get destructed and the regenerating component of the additive reacts with the surface material. The compounds produced as a result of chemical interaction diffuse into the surface and are included into the near-surface layer structure. Thus, the strong reinforced coating of initial surfaces is formed and then regenerated.
And the third process is a formation of the self-regulating structure of the lubricating layer - Smart Lubrication.
The oil, being a friction modifier carrier, is subject to near-surface polymerization over time and forms an additional protective interlayer between the absorbed antifriction films. This layer facilitates the hydrodynamic mode of lubrication with minimum friction.
Thus, the material of the near-surface layers of the base, reinforced coating, absorbed antifriction films, polymeric interlayers and oil itself form a structure that reduces friction, strengthens and regenerates surfaces and protects them from wear.
